Russia’s MTS to lease out towers to diversify
MOSCOW, Apr 28 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator MTS will lease out its towers, the company said Thursday in a statement.
“Russia is witnessing an active shaping of the market of towers and antenna mast facilities lease. By diversifying our business, we are announcing that we are ready to lease out our towers to anyone,” Andrei Ushatsky, the company’s director for technology and IT, said.
At the first stage, the company prepared to lease out more than 5,500 towers and antenna mast facilities, but the offer could be raised in case of a high demand.
MTS will also lease out corresponding channels of connection.
The operator’s main rivals, MegaFon and VimpelCom, plan to sell their towers, which were or in the course of spinning off into separate firms.
